Lots of HIV R&D, but only 0.1% for developing-country specific versions (G-FINDER)


“Total R&D funding for HIV/AIDS was US$1.08 billion, with US$692 million (63.9%) directed to vaccines, US$200 million (18.4%) to microbicides, and US$176 million (16.2%) to basic research. Less than US$1 million (0.1%) was invested in development of HIV drugs targeted at developing world needs, such as paediatric formulations and fixed-dose antiretroviral combinations (Figure 2).
