US Supreme Court: Can’t patent genes (Myriad case)


“The US Supreme Court ruled on June 13, 2013, that human genes are not eligible for patents, a decision that is expected to open doors for many clinical and research oncologists worldwide. Previously, many clinicians could not freely screen patients for these genes, and researchers were unable to publish potentially useful clinical data for these mutations.”
